Who wants to look at out-dated knotty pine?

Naughty knotty pine!  Time to clean this bad boy up and get him out of the corner.

This was the third piece of furniture Leslie  sent to me in an effort to update her bedroom to coastal cool.

This was the dresser pre-makeover:

Sold wood, great lines, dovetail joints – just a beautiful piece of workmanship and not something you should ever, ever, EVER throw away

Even if it has a few blemishes here and there:

Some sanding, primer, paint and new handles and dresser makeover complete!

You would never guess that this was the same dresser I began with would you?

I wouldn’t (if I hadn’t done the work).  Hubby couldn’t believe it and I think Leslie was pretty amped over the results.

Want a before and after of the dresser makeover for your Pinterest board?  Just to remind you NOT to throw anything wood away… EVER.

Just spectacular!

For this dresser makeover (and most of the pieces I do) we went with Benjamin Moore’s “Advance” formula paint – it is a latex, but with the levelling and hardness properties of an oil paint.  It takes 30 days to fully ‘cure’, but then it is supposed to be as durable and washable as any oil paint.

The cup handles are about 3″ high and easily covered where the previous knobs had been.  Proof positive that the hardware on your furniture makes a HUUUUUUGE difference.  Knobs, bars, handles all would have given this piece a different feel – for Leslie’s ‘coastal’ theme, these cups couldn’t be more perfect.

And all the little blemishes are gone!

I don’t have photos of Leslie’s finished room (yet) – I hope to add them in the future – but for now I’ll leave you with her new bedroom set:

Gosh I love a good dresser makeover!

Have a great one!

  1. I have this dresser and have been SEARCHING for the matching nightstands! Do you know anything about the wood tone or the original collection of this set?!?!
