I didn’t know what to call this post?

I’ve always called these chairs “Muskoka”, but in the US I guess they are called “Adirondack chairs” – either way, I was in desperate need of a new pair.

This is my second set of Adirondack chairs / Muskoka chairs in the past 10 years, and this pair has been painted twice – which is a BEAST of a job. Water and weather have taken their toll (yet again) and I’m left with rotting wood, peeling paint, mould and even a few mushrooms.

It was time to upgrade and buy the last Adirondack chairs / Muskoka chairs I’ll ever have to buy, much less paint or store….

so I contacted C.R. Plastic Products and asked if I could showcase this:

579 recycled plastic bottles make up each adirondack chair

That’s my new Muskoka chair!

Yup, the equivalent of 579 milk jugs in recycled plastic made up each of my new “Addies”. Kedel recycled plastic outdoor furniture is made on the same basis of ethical and ecologically sourced materials.

While this is a sponsored post in that I received a discount on my new chairs, it was I that approached C.R. Plastic Products because I so desperately wanted their ‘composite’ chairs this time around and I was familiar with their quality and workmanship.

Friends of ours have Adirondack chairs from C.R. Plastic Products and have had them for 10 years now – a 10 year chair is a feat in itself, but what really impressed me was that the chairs have not faded a single shade, have no chips, scratches, mould or rot and still look as though they are brand new! That’s within the same timeframe that I have gone through two cedar sets and 3 coats of paint.

Just in case you’re thinking these are “plastic” chairs like those you see at grocery stores – let me assure you they are not.

These are samples of the recycled plastic lumber they use – the colour runs all the way through each board and they are about the thickness of a 2×4″ – we’re talking dense here. Each chair weighs just over 50lbs, so these bad boys won’t be blowing away in anything short of a tornado.

I was given a tour of the factory and I can’t tell you how impressed I was – first off because of the fact that all of C.R. Plastic Products (and yes, they carry far more than just Adirondack chairs) are crafted from up to 100% recycled plastic – which would otherwise contribute to our landfill problems, but they also use their own waste in constructing their furniture. Excess melted plastics are run through the shredder again with the recycled plastics and reused for other chairs, shavings are used to stuff the pillows and even the material used for the deep seating sets is partially composed of pvc threads. It was astounding!

This loveseat is made from recycled plastics and the metallic material has pvc threads throughout (this patio set is on my wish list for next year). If you could have something this gorgeous, this durable, this low-maintenance AND be making an eco-friendly choice you really should right?

What if I told you C.R. Plastic Products also has a limited lifetime warranty? (they do, that wasn’t rhetorical)

In 1994, Jamie Bailey, co-owner and co-founder of C.R. Plastic Products Inc., started manufacturing recycled plastic furniture in an effort to divert used plastic away from landfills, and limit unnecessary felling of trees. His goal was to make a product that would provide the look and warmth of wood, without the typical shortcomings associated with maintaining wood furniture. The proprietary extrusion process discovered, improved & customized by Jamie, produces a unique plastic lumber that won’t mold, rot, splint or crack. The process creates a superior fit and finish, including a beautiful textured-look similar to the grain of wood, and smooth rounded edges for enhanced comfort. With an added automotive-grade, UV stabilizer, each piece is guaranteed to maintain its beautiful colour for years, without the need of staining or painting.

This stuff is made to stay out all winter and still look brand new come Spring!

The water beads up and doesn’t soak in – this will never rot or mould.

There are dozens of colours to choose from and cushions can be mixed and matched.

Imagine these lining your front porch as you sip lemonade and/or sweet tea – ah, Southern summers.

I was shopping for Adirondack chairs / Muskoka chairs and they had a few versions to choose from – the singles, the doubles, kid-sized and even rockers.

They also have entire lines of tables, benches, umbrellas, loungers, and picnic tables – to see the full selection you really need to check out the website here which will also help you find a retailer in your area.
