Cement Pears

Add a bit of industrial coolness to your decor without mixing up concrete or spending a fortune.  Check out how I turned this fake fruit into cement pears for my home decor using just a cement spray paint!

I’m working on an awesome workbench for my She-shop.  This beauty is 4′ by 8′ with both my mitre saw and table saw fit right into the build plans.  It has drawers and room for a shop vac and, and, and…  you’ll see – it’s coming soon to the blog.

The reason I bring this up is that I contacted Rust-Oleum to partner on another project and while I was ‘wheeling and dealing’. (kidding, I’m the worst wheeler and dealer) I asked if they had any extra spray paint lying around that I could fully stock my shelves with.  Don’t get me wrong, I have a ton of Rust-Oleum spray paint already – I really do love the company and their products – but I needed a few more to fill out the workbench shelves.

Long story, short – they sent me something I’ve never seen before.

Cement spray paint!

That’s brilliant right?

I’ve tried making cement planters and while it’s not impossible, it’s time-consuming and messy and the drying time tests my patience.  You can imagine how excited I was to test out a paint, that you can put on ANYTHING, and make it look like cement.  My fingers were twitching just holding the can. lol

*Note:  I was provided with Rust-Oleum Specialty Cement spray paint for another project, but couldn’t wait to share it – so this is an early preview.  As always, all opinions are sincere and my own.  This post contains affiliate links – for full affiliate disclosure, please see sidebar.

As you can see in the background, I decided I wanted some cement pears in my decor, so I picked up a bag of plastic ones at HomeSense.

I shot a few nails through a thin piece of wood with my nailer to create a stand for spraying on.

Then I just popped a pear on each little spike and got to work.

I know, I should have primed them first, but I was too excited to see how my cement pears would turn out.

What do you think?

Cute right?

The cement spray paint was awesome and I love it, but the finish wasn’t exactly concrete-like; it was a bit matte for my taste.  I wanted the cement pears to have that ‘dusty’ or chalky look to them so I just went over each one with a piece of chalk and lightly rubbed it in.

Perfecto-mundo!

I wish I had a perfectly styled coffee table, but usually it’s got some homework and/or a few toys, a dirty glass, tv remote and now and then a sock.  All I can really do to decorate is keep a small centrepiece in the middle and let the clutter surround it.

I love the juxtaposition of the warm wood and the cold cement.  I’m not sure about the moss – I think a boxwood branch might be better?

I made 6 cement pears and I still have a boat-load of the Cement spray paint left, so you know you’re going to be seeing a planter, a vase… ooooh!  Easter eggs!!

Yup, more to come – I love this stuff!

Have a great one!
