Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Do you have Easter bunnies still lurking around your house?

Perhaps you tucked them away after the gluttony of the hunt and completely forgot where you put them?

Perhaps you didn’t really want all of that chocolatey goodness to go directly to your butt all at once and instead decided to titrate your “dosages” out?

Well, Easter is long gone and the warm weather either has you storing your chocolate in the fridge (yuck!), or you risk the heat separating the oil from the cocoa and then you have those disgusting looking chocolate pieces with the whitish film on them.

Sure, I’ll eat them, gross film and all, but that’s not how chocolate should be treated (or eaten).

My friend Serena mentioned that she still had her bunnies lying around and was going to make some chocolate covered pretzels with them.  I’d never considered eating the bunny in any form other than a bunny – so this was groundbreaking information!

I cut the bunny up into 1″ (2.5cm) pieces so they’d melt faster.

Yes, a piece or two managed to escape the chopping carnage, only to be sacrificed to the Goddess of Melting.

If you saw my post on cake-pop chocolate, you’ll remember that melting chocolate is not about heat – it’s about friction.

Fill a saucepan about halfway with water and put on the burner to warm.  Place a metal mixing bowl over top with your chocolate inside.  Once the water in the saucepan has come to a boil, turn the burner off, but continue to stir the chocolate until it is completely melted and smooth.

I used a spatula to wipe-pour the chocolate down the pretzel rod.  Dipping the tip isn’t satisfying for anyone. (Get your minds out of the gutter!)

On a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, lay out your pretzel sticks to cool.

I like peanuts, so I made a few with some crushed over top.

I decided that they needed a bit more chocolate as well, so I drizzled some extra over them, just for good measure.

That chocolate Easter Bunny that has been hiding in my pantry for the last month+….

devoured in one evening by my salty-sweet-peanut-craving family.

At least it went to more asses than just mine?
