Did you catch the cute knobs on Chloë’s closet project the other day?

Would you believe they cost $0.10 each?

Truthfully – I picked up a whack-load of these white ceramic knobs ages ago but they were so bland and boring I couldn’t bring myself to use them – until I tried making these DIY decorative knobs, and now I wish I’d picked up more.

This project is SO SIMPLE you won’t buy expensive knobs again – and trust me, that’s a HUGE savings.

All you need is a circle hole punch (or scissors) some scrapbook paper in a pattern you love, some Mod Podge and a bit of clear gloss spray paint.

I started by punching out 1″ circles of scrapbook paper, which was just slightly smaller than the knob face.  I wanted a small ‘frame’ around each knob, so my circles needed to be slightly smaller.  If you want your entire knob covered, punch or cut a circle larger than the face.

I painted some ModPodge on the back of the paper and adhered them – making sure to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles – to the knob face.

Add a thin coating of ModPodge over the paper to soften some of the stiffness and smooth it completely flat.

Let dry.

To protect my DIY decorative knobs and to make sure they stand up to wear and tear, I sprayed them with three coats of clear varnish in a gloss finish.

The varnish will give them a glossy coat, making them look like true ceramic knobs.

They are so cute!

(and so easy!)

Chloë chose the pink with polka dot scrapbook paper, but you could do this with wrapping paper, comic books or fabric.  Make them all match or make each one slightly different but coordinating.

I’ve paid $8 per knob in previous projects, so these DIY decorative knobs can be a huge money saver if you are refinishing any furniture pieces.

Ten cents each – what more can I say?

Have a great one!
