If this isn’t the easiest DIY you do this year, I don’t know what is. In fact, I might be over-stating when I even title it DIY because this DIY pool towel rack is really just a matter of paint and hooks.

You may remember the last DIY pool towel rack I made a couple/few years ago out of PVC pipe? It was cute and it worked really well, but we found that we were moving it here and there when we wanted to BBQ or when company came over, or when we mowed the lawn (depending on where we moved it to last), so I decided to make something smaller and more ‘tucked away’ for drying our pool towels.

As luck would have it, I came across this mini-pallet on garbage day last summer.

A curb find is ideal, but the chances of you finding one this size yourself is a bit of a long-shot, so you can use your Rockwell Versacut and cut down a larger pallet (still a great price at free), or you can purchase a 2×4 and a 1×4 and make one yourself….

Mine is (roughly) a square, so cut two pieces of 2×4 at 24″ long and then three pieces of 1×4 at roughly 24″ long and nail or screw together.

Give it a light sanding – you don’t want to snag bathing suits or towels on rough edges.

I love bright colours and a summer patio is a great place to indulge your whimsy, so I went with a blue-purple outdoor paint for my pallet – A tester pot is more than sufficient to do a few coats.Pallet towel rack 3

I found these adorable bird hooks at Michael’s last summer (I have seen them there recently as well) and decided to add a punch of fun to my DIY pool towel rack.

The white ceramic knobs on the bottom half were leftovers I had in my stash, but I think you can find them for about $0.60 at hardware stores. Go ceramic – wood knobs will rot quickly under the weight of heavy, wet towels. Likewise, metal hooks that haven’t been coated will also rust out.

SO CUTE!

Pre-drill your wall with a concrete drill bit and then use concrete screws to attach it into place.

It holds six towels easily, and since the bird hooks are double-hangers, if there is a busy day in the backyard, I can fit an additional three towels and/or bathing suits as well.

Madison and Hubby both play soccer, so quite often you will see soccer jerseys or shin pads hanging out to get the stank out dry.

If you want to give your pool towel rack a more luxurious look, you could always buy metal online from aluminium warehouse and use that instead! Copper bars would look so chic.

DIY Pool Towel Rack

Given we were supposed to get one last dump of snow today, mine hasn’t been in use yet this year but if you have a pool, or athletes (even a kiddie pool for the tots or pets), this is an easy DIY that will dress up your yard and keep towels at bay.
