Chloe was home ill from school earlier this week. Not really ill actually; she threw up the night before so we kept her home from school ‘just in case’ it was a flu or something. In hindsight it was probably the pound of mini eggs that she scarfed down that made her vomit and not any illness.

Regardless, I know I don’t have to tell you how difficult it is to get any work done when the kids are home. Particularly healthy but bored kids that are grounded from their iPad for missing school.

She was over my shoulder every 10 minutes with new ideas and questions and concerns and plans and… you get the idea. I needed to find something to keep her occupied and still get some work done for the blog at the same time.

Adult colouring is all the rage now. It used to be just a kid thing, but even crafting for dementia patients is becoming a way to soothe adults with the disease in assisted living facilities. It seems all adults are embracing it, so with that in mind I thought we could create Easter wishes cards to send out using a Papertrey Ink stamp set called “Fancy Folk Art” – which requires colouring.

Perfect!

I stamped out 9 copies of the folk art flower using memento ink (because it won’t bleed when mixed with markers) and then Chloe and I set to colouring everything in with “Mommy’s Special Markers” (the Copic Markers that I never let them use).

I’ll admit, sitting and colouring – for a purpose – was fun. I don’t know that I could dedicate myself to those adult colouring books, but creating Easter Wishes cards was fun and functional so-to-speak.

I cut out our flower images and then layered them onto card bases; 5.5″ by 8.5″ folded in half.

I cut a contrasting layer at 4″ by 5.25″, then a third layer at 3.75″ by 5″ to frame it all out.

I had some circle dies so I ran two sizes of those through my cutting machine – again in colours coordinating with the Easter Wishes cards.

I popped up the central image using Stampin’ dimensionals (very similar to Pop Dots) and tied a bit of coloured baker’s twine around the layers for balance.

This pink one isn’t my favourite – the sentiment seems lonely – but I do love the colours of the flowers, so I decided to show it.

I dropped the ball so badly at Christmas and only sent out about half of the cards I had planned to, then I’m pretty sure I’ve missed about half of the birthdays that have happened so far this year – so I needed “Easter wishes” to try to redeem myself before everyone thinks I’ve fallen off the planet.

Actually, I guess no one would think that would they – with me writing the blog and all.

Huh.

Okay, just in case I don’t get enough of these made and in the mail in time – everyone, please accept these photos as my “Happy Easter Wishes” to you.
