Our family room is a fair size at 14′ x 17′, so finding furniture to make the space feel ‘cozy’ was a bit of a task. Previously we had two full-sized sofas flanking each side of the room and a large coffee table filling the centre – but it wasn’t conducive to cuddle time with the kids.
This time around I knew I wanted a sectional. Something large and in-charge to better utilize the space, give a feeling of warmth and allow the girls and I to snuggle in together over a bowl of popcorn.
I shopped a few stores, but as soon as I tested the Wilcot sectional at Ashley HomeStore I was sold. The classic roll arms give that “cottage” feel and make a soft resting spot for weekend naps. The upholstery is a plush chenille in a “linen” colour and is much softer than many of the other upholstered pieces I tried. As someone that tends to fall asleep during family movies, a soft resting place that wouldn’t scratch my skin off was important.
The seat backs are loose – as in not attached to the sectional – so they are easily plumped or flipped, but the filling in the Wilcot is quite lofty, so I doubt anything more than a lift will be needed for years to come.
The sectional seats are covered with the same linen fabric on all sides, which is great for extra stain space flipping them over to balance the wear. I had no idea this was a special feature on furniture – but many upholstered pieces come with only one side of the seat cushion covered with fabric. Often the other side is a cheap filler piece of material that saves you money, but limits the lifespan of your piece.
In addition, this sectional comes with 2 layers of cushioned comfort – a high-density foam core encased in thick polyfill for extra loft and life.
For our family room, we went with the Wilcot 4-piece sectional with a left-arm chaise. I have ALWAYS WANTED A CHAISE! Seriously, who doesn’t dream of an ultra-plush seat that they can stretch their legs on? This corner was stamped as mine even before we left Ashley HomeStore Canada. lol

Having never owned a sectional before I was concerned that movement on the couch would cause the pieces to pull apart over time. Not so my friends – and this may be a feature of all sectionals, I’m not sure – but each piece is cleverly locked in place with hardware brackets so that nothing shifts or moves until you unlatch it.
Yes, family friendly furniture – because you know if there is anyone under the age of 7 in your house, there will be sofa jumping – and no one wants to wipe blood off of their new sectional (or kids) because someone has fallen between the pieces.
