I’m sorry that I’ve been AWOL the past couple of days… the season is upon us and I had to get a few things done in the background which didn’t leave me enough time for new creations, photo editing and writing.  I’ve been posting a few on Instagram (my feed is gorgeous, even if I do say so myself – I’ve curated some of my favourite images from around the web into one magazine-like feed.  You really need to follow me!)

There was of course some decorating going on;

awol 1 - 1

A bit more building to create gifts for friends

awol 2 - 1

Some time spent with my chicklets – and a much needed hygiene session for all of us. lol

awol 3 - 1

I’ve been ‘researching’ ideas for my own Christmas cards (coming soon)

and then there is just plain goofing off.  Not a lot of goofing off, but enough that I could recharge, refresh and come back ready today.

I’m back, and today I have a warm treat to share…

Hot Apple Cider – from The Frugal Girls

You will need:

  • 2 litres apple cider
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange
  • fillable teabag or very fine tea diffuser.

Crockpot Apple Cider

Pour your apple cider into your crockpot and stir in the brown sugar.

Put your cloves and ginger into a fillable teabag and hang it from the edge of the crockpot into the cider.

Add your cinnamon sticks and orange – cut into wedges, with the peel on.

Cook on low for ~3hours

Crockpot Apple Cider

I’ll admit, cider by itself tastes pretty great, but this is a ramped-up version.

I tested it on family (my poor little guinea pigs) and they loved it so much they want the recipe to use for an upcoming dinner party.

Crockpot Apple Cider

I was trying to stage the photos to look extra-appealing, but in truth, the cider mixed with peppermint bark is NOT a great flavour combination.  Think orange juice after brushing your teeth, then add the extra flavour of apple and cloves.

Nope, this is a hot mug held in two hands kind of drink, and the fact that it’s in the slow cooker means you can go out sledding, skiing or just for a walk and come back to a warm cup.

I wasn’t going to show this last photo, but it makes me laugh; most of my mugs have a slight “paint spatter” patina to them.  An unintentional DIY so to speak. lol

Have a great Sunday everyone!
