This project has been in the works for almost two years now…
It wasn’t anything I could build or DIY, so it came with a price tag – one that required me accumulating missed birthday and Mother’s Day gifts in order to get.
We have a small patio at the front of our house. From the time we moved into our home 10 years ago we have been friends with our neighbours. Not just the ones on either side of our house, but ALL of our neighbours. We all have kids the same age, they all go to school or soccer or something together. The Dads play hockey together and the Moms get together for wine and/or dinners.
Because of this camaraderie, whenever one neighbour is out front, the rest seem to come out and we all glom together – usually in our front yard.
Why us? Well, after seeing this trend, we decided to build what we call a “beer patio” out front.
Just a little 7′ circle with a couple of muskoka chairs on it, plus the raised lip of the garden wall gives everyone a place to sit and chat and watch the kids.
My little clematis plant LOVED this spot – morning sun and an 8′ trellis to climb.
Do you see where I’m going with all this long-windedness?
That’s a big expanse of wall, the clematis has overwhelmed the 8′ iron trellis, and it’s a spot that we like to sit out and enjoy with friends….
To you that might mean nothing – but to me, that indicates it’s time for a larger iron trellis – and one that will also act as a statement piece in our front garden.
I sent an image over to Red Iron Design and Katie came back with a schematic (and price) for my new iron trellis garden art.
Yup, the bill was about 2 birthdays and 2 Mother’s Days worth of missed gifts and guilt trips – and two years later, look what was installed this week!
Seven feet by 7 feet of gorgeous iron work!
My poor clematis had to get a pretty severe haircut to release its from the old iron trellis and then train it to this one – but I’m sure he’ll be much happier when he can spread his wings further.
Gorgeous right? (I’m in lurv!)
It breaks up the long expanse of wall, provides a beautiful piece of art and will (eventually) be covered in flowers.
Well, maybe not covered – I like the look of it too much to hide it.
Thank you Katie and Rob from RedIronDesign.ca!
It was more than worth the wait.
(Thank you Hubby, Madison and Chloe! Mommy LOVES her gift!)
Have a great one!
