The girls and I had fun last night – I came across these glass vases at a thrift store yesterday and I had planned to add a black vinyl face and then fill them with orange candies (which I still think would be totally cute), but who needs more candy at Hallowe’en right?
Not me, particularly when my girls asked if they could paint them.
ANYTIME my girls want to join in and craft with me, I’m game!
These little beauties were a dollar, and I’ve seen similar ones at the dollar store as well, so we’re not breaking the bank with this craft.
We used plain craft paint and did a few light coats.
Then the girls went wild and came up with their own scary faces.
This is Chloe’s:
she chose to put little spatters of blood under the eyes (you can see they are red in full light).
And this is Maddie’s:
Fangs, blood dripping and on the back it has a long dragon tail with sharp spikes.
I think my kids watch Hallowe’en Wars too much.
I just dropped a small tea light inside and they just glow.
The girls were so thrilled when I lit them up – partially because I never light real candles, but more because they loved seeing their ghoulish artwork light up.
The great thing about craft paint on glass is that it’s relatively easy to remove if the kids don’t like their design, or if you want to come up with a different lantern project for the next Holiday…. think turkeys or Christmas ornaments.
An accidental project that turned out really well!
Go have fun with your kids.
Have a great one!
