Leslie wanted to update her bedroom decor to a new cool, coastal theme – but these nightstands were stopping her in her tracks.  Nothing says ‘cool’ and ‘coastal’ like knotty pine right?

Not so much.

That’s where I come in – time to take these bad boys from warm wood to dark and dramatic.

Leslie selected Benjamin Moore’s “Hale Navy” and it is spectacular!  If you are looking for a navy blue nightstand, this is the colour you want –  truthfully – I’m itching to paint something else in this elegant, rich hue – just gorgeous!

Leslie hadn’t selected out her knobs as at the time of delivery on these bedside tables, so I decided to play with photoshop a little and try out a few styles to see how they might look against the navy blue nightstand.

The first knob is a mercury glass octagon sort of piece – and while the photo doesn’t do it justice, I think it really would be quite striking – especially in a coastal themed room.  The second knob is a white ceramic with flowers etched in royal – sort of  ‘Ming-vase-like’ – I don’t think it would fit in with the cool, ocean feel, but it would look cute in a more farmhouse-style room.

This lamp (the entire display really) would be sharp with the mercury glass knob.

And now that I’ve seen this lamp:

I’m all over that white and blue ceramic knob.

I tried some etched metal knobs on the next image, but I think the tarnished gold might be too dark against the navy blue nightstand and the etching is lost.

Old faithful – gold bars.  Swapping out the single knob for a full handle brings more sophistication to the nightstands don’t you think?  A sleek gold (or silver) bar says “these don’t belong in a kids room” and beckons for a trinket dish and a rounded gold lamp.

Maybe like this one?

But then we’re getting away from the coastal feel aren’t we?  Maybe Leslie could just surround it with kelp or something to make it work.

I’m pretty crazy for this one:

Sorry, no link available

Pinterest labelled it as a mercury glass lamp, but it almost seems like pottery doesn’t it?  The darks and golds throughout – this could fit in with almost any theme really?

Darn it, what started out as a nightstand makeover for a friend, has now turned into a window shopping spree for me… and I don’t own a navy blue nightstand (yet anyways).

While I can’t wait to see what Leslie ends up doing with her room (and these bedside tables), I think it’s fair to say that the after is much better than the before.

Starting on the (previously coordinating) knotty pine dresser this week!   Can’t wait to show you!

Have a great one!
