Do you feel guilty when people come to your door selling things?  Whether it be fundraisers, window cleaning, Artists trying to fund their work or some walk/run/jog/fart-athon, I always feel guilty saying “no”.

Everyone has a cause, and every cause has some value, and going door-to-door is a shitty way to spend a day – I mean, I couldn’t handle that much rejection – so I feel badly being another one of the thousand others that says “No thank you” and then closes the door.

But you’d go broke if you gave to every single thing that came around, and solicitors tend to come around dinner time when you really don’t have the time or energy to give them your full attention.

So as guilty as I feel for them/their cause/ their business – I really would rather be left alone and not be put in the position to say “No thank you”.

Enter my latest invention – or someone’s invention with my personal spin on it – the No Soliciting sign for your front door.

All I did was size my Silhouette adhesive vinyl down to 6″ x 6″ and type up my message:

Make a "No Soliciting" sign for your front door - keep strangers at bay. Silhouette sign

I went with blue so that it stands out without being an eyesore – and adhered it to the transoms next to my front door.

Just slightly above doorbell height so it can’t be missed.

It’s permanent enough to stay on (my porch is covered, so I don’t know how it would fair in rain and snow), and yet easily removable without leaving all kinds of sticker gunk all over your window or door.

My “No Soliciting sign” took 6″ of vinyl and less than 10 minutes of my time – and will hopefully save me the tedium, guilt and interruptions from door-to-door sales people.

…unless you sell mint smoothies – then you really need to knock anyways.

I’d better amend this, I don’t want to miss out on chocolate.

Have a great one!
