This is my purse.

I have a few purses, none of them fancy, but 99% of the time I just leave all of my stuff in this comfy bag.

It has my blog embroidered on it, it has a few pockets and is big enough to hold everything (and the kitchen sink).

See what I mean:

That’s pretty embarrassing.

Like many of you, I’m a Mom, so while a lot of these things shouldn’t be in my purse (popcorn topping?  – we must have snuck it into the movies. lol), likely you have this chaos in yours as well.

Partially eaten chocolate bar that melted all over my wallet, more candy than I realized and the biggest contributor to my unorganized purse – receipts!

The bottom of my purse looked like a drug-deal gone wrong with all the pills from my purse first aid kit crushed up everywhere.  (The elastic on the case broke and everything fell out).

UGH!

Nothing like a little Benadryl dust coating everything right?

I read somewhere that the best way to organize your purse was to incorporate pouches to keep like with like.

Makes sense.

I picked up these inexpensive clear pouches at Indigo and started organizing my chaos.

I was able to pare things down to three pouches; one for feminine products, one for pills and toiletries/makeup and a third for my bag-buffet.

I should probably get another pouch for the girls’ stuff like hair elastics, lip balm and their wallets – which I always seem to end up carrying.

My wallet and sunglasses were tucked in separately and look at this!

I can reach into my newly organized purse and actually find my keys and/or phone without having to root through everything.

I gave it a couple of weeks to see if this “How to organize your purse system” really worked and, with the exception of those damn receipts, everything else stayed neat and tidy!

Better still, if you do decide to organize your purse this way, then all you have to do is pull out a few pouches and transfer them back and forth to different purses.

I won’t – I’m lazy and unfashionable – but YOU totally could.

A simple purse hack that I had to share since it seems to work.

I know this isn’t my usual DIY post, but a girl can’t build every day. lol

Have a great one!

  1. hey Shelly, I wanted to share a few tips that I have come across for myself – 1; I save my mint containers to use for my “purse 1st aid kit”, 2; if you get the mints in the tins, you can use those as well to hold your cards, or as I do, use an app, the one I like is KeyChain. also, maybe if you had a pouch for your receipts, my wallet is left ‘open’ , so I can drop the receipts in, than when I get home, I pull them out when I set my purse in it’s spot.
I used to be a disorganized mess, than when my wee ones started popping out, I realized that I didn’t have as much time to hunt down my keys/purse/etc., so I started putting things in their spot
