Product Review: Viva Vantage Paper Towels

I’ve recently been accepted to be a product tester for Influenster.

This is flattering, because not everyone gets accepted, and it’s fun to try out new things and learn about new products… and it’s even more fun when they send you the products to test for FREE!

My first box arrived a week or so ago and in it was a package of Viva Vantage paper towels for me to test and review.

Viva Vantage paper towels product review - thumbs down

Now here’s my dilemma; I want to be part of the Influenster program, but what do you do if you don’t endorse the product you are sent to test?

Let me show you what I did –

I compared a roll of Viva Vantage to my regular Bounty paper towels to see which roll gave you more paper towels.  (I got by with a little help from my friends)
Viva test - 1

Bounty had almost 1/3 more sheets than the Viva Vantage did – and that’s a considerable difference.

What I can say about the Viva Vantage is that the towels were tough – you can see in the photo where the Bounty towels ripped in the breeze (on the perforation lines) but the Viva Vantage didn’t.  That’s a good thing right?

The Viva Vantage also had a really neat texture to it – it almost feels like a light plastic coating over it – and that’s where the durability and stretch come into play.

Having written that – there are times when we use a paper towel as a napkin at the patio table – and this is not soft on the face.

Not doing well so far, so I decided to try another test – absorbency.

I filled up two glasses and put a single rectangle to the test:
Viva test 2 - 1

Both the Bounty towel and the Viva one were in the (coloured) water for 30 seconds and then I pulled them out…
Viva test 2 - 2

They appeared to be equally as absorbent.

I thought I’d try a tougher test and go with the ‘raw egg cleanup’.

Just to make it more difficult, I cracked the eggs on my sun-warmed patio table.
Viva test 2 - 4

I used one rectangle of each towel and tried to clean up the egg….

Viva test 2 - 5

The Bounty cleaned up the entire egg with one little rectangle.

The Viva Vantage left this mess even after using three rectangles.Viva test 2 - 7

My final test – and this happened totally by accident – was cleaning up cat puke.  Don’t worry, I didn’t take photos.

I think the fireworks got to Otis last week and he emptied out a stomach-full of cat food onto my bedroom carpet.

The Bounty soaked up what needed to be soaked up – but crumbled when I tried to scrub the carpet.

I was able to wet the Viva Vantage and scrub the carpet without it falling apart or leaving bits of towel everywhere.  In this case, the Viva Vantage was TOUGH – and I was pleasantly surprised.

So, at the risk of losing my membership to Influenster, I have to be honest and say that I would not buy the Viva Vantage paper towels.  There were far fewer rectangles on a roll, they weren’t soft enough for napkin use, they weren’t any more absorbent than our regular paper towel and they failed the egg test miserably.

Perhaps as the pets age and I need to clean up more messes, I might add this to our pantry as a puke/feces cleaner – but for now, I just can’t recommend you spend the money on these.

*Disclosure: I received Viva Vantage paper towels free of charge for testing purposes.

Have a great one!

Too funny
