Santa Labels

I had some drama here last week – and not the good kind.

The Santa “Special Delivery” labels I had on my blog from last year had to be taken down.  Someone claimed they were hers and I was infringing on her copyright.

I would like to state that I hired a graphic designer and PAID for my Santa labels (and even offered to send her my invoice), but it wasn’t enough.  My images were different – different fonts, colours etc, but they were ‘similar’.  I pulled down the posts from the blog so that all links in Pinterest, Twitter, etc would be broken….

but that wasn’t enough – she then went to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc and filed a copyright infringement notice on me!  She even had the image removed from my Society 6 account and I was banned from Facebook for 3 days!  Not a big deal to most, but I do use Facebook to help build my audience – so it was certainly a business inconvenience.

I don’t know if you’ve seen pissed Shelly on the blog in awhile – but she surfaced last week!  To top it off, this person was giving away her labels for free – so I was in no way taking money from her pocket, but was instead out money from my own for the files I paid for and all of the time and energy expended on dealing with her.  The only upside was that she must have spent ages surfing all of my sites to find the images – from a year ago – so I know a fair chunk of her time was wasted.

PISSED!

I’m sorry, that was not the proper way to start a post on Santa Labels, but I had to explain why you could no longer find or use the ones I put up last year.

SO, I have had NEW LABELS DESIGNED – ones that are clearly marked as mine (check out the Elf ID#) and you are welcome to print, share, use as much as you like.

These are to go on gifts from Santa, and will help us all create a more consistent Christmas message (kids talk you know).

They have been sized so you can print them on your home printer on Avery shipping labels (#5163 I believe).  Fill in the blank section and adhere to those special gifts from Santa.

I’m thinking these would fit perfectly on a tea-type tin, which you could fill with tea or your own baking.  What a cute presentation!

If anyone is interested in having these made up into tote bags or throw pillows, let me know and I’ll create images suitable and upload them to Society 6.

You can’t kill my Christmas spirit!

Have a great one!

Things like this seem to be happening more often. I’ve seen people have to remove Tree of Life pendants from Etsy because someone there is claiming to own the design–a design that’s been around for CENTURIES!
It is SO wrong and I’m sorry this happened to you.

Thank you so much – it’s tough, how do you search the entire internet for images? You have to trust that your designer is coming up with something original and keep your fingers crossed I guess? I really appreciate the support and kind words.

It was all new to me, but a valuable lesson in copyright. Ah the dangers of blogging I guess? lol I’ve made it quite clear this new one is mine and mine alone – although, really for everyone to use… that’s what this blogging stuff is all about – sharing right? Thanks for the support.

How do I get it to print on the Avery system? It will not take a pfd file.

You should be able to click print on the pdf file and then just load Avery sheets into your printer. No special uploads or alterations necessary – just click print with the sticker paper in your printer. Hope this helps.

Thank you for these labels they are exactly what I’ve been searching for and hoped to find. I read your experience about copyright about previous labels I know its a couple of years ago now but I hope whoever it was will stay on the naughty list for lots of years. Many thanks.

I can’t thank you enough for making such lovely new ones, especially after all of that rigamarole! These labels are just gorgeous, and my son is finally old enough to get excited about gifts from Santa so these are exactly what I was hoping to find.

I’m so glad! Next year, print them for friends and family so that there’s some “Santa consistency” around you. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
