Who says flowers are for special occasions only?  And who says you have to spend a bundle?  This time of year is fantastic for finding gorgeous summer blooms along the edge of rural roads… for free!  Check out my simple summer bouquets made up of overgrowth from my own garden.

I was driving around the other day, just running errands, and I noticed that along the sides of the roads (the ones on the outskirts of town anyways) the ditches were filled with day lillies in full bloom.  Just growing there like unkempt weeds – except SO PRETTY!

No, I didn’t pull over right then and there, but only because I have a little hosta garden in my side yard and look what keeps creeping in:

I thought I had pulled all of my daylillies after we lost our Phoebe to eating a bit of one, but apparently the bulbs are pretty hardy and it keeps coming back.

I still hold a grudge, but they are kinda pretty – and free – so I thought I’d make a simple summer bouquet.

You can see how my hostas are starting to overgrow the walkway a bit, so I trimmed a few of the longer leaves off to make the base of my simple summer bouquet.

They looked so pretty by themselves that I ended up keeping one arrangement of just hosta leaves.

For the second (free) summer arrangement I tucked in some of the daylillies:

Did I mention you can find these at the side of the road right now?  (Don’t go cutting your neighbours’ – unless they are better. lol)

If you change out the water daily, these should stay beautiful and keep blooming for at least a week.

Leave them outside and watch the flowers open each morning, or bring them inside and add some colour and summer scent to your home.

I know this isn’t an elaborate tutorial or anything you probably haven’t thought of on your own – but since I’ve never stopped to pick the “weeds”, I thought perhaps you might not have either – and who doesn’t love flowers?

Particularly a simple summer bouquet that is completely free.

Happy sigh.

Go get yourself some flowers – you’ve earned it!

Have a great one!
