Good morning everyone!

I’m just popping in with a quickie post this morning to show off these adorable faux snowballs.

There’s not much to this tutorial really, but my Mom thought I should share it in case anyone else wanted to tuck a few decorative snowballs on their front porch, under their tree or as place markers on the dining table.

I picked up some styrofoam balls from Michael’s

FloraCraft styrofoam balls

It’s tough to tell from the image, but these styrofoam balls are not perfectly smooth.  They have thousands of tiny holes in them, sort of like popped bubbles – these are the styrofoam balls you want, not the ones in the photo below:

I tried both versions and it was really difficult to get the SnoFlock to stick to these smoother balls.

I simply sprayed the styrofoam with water and then rolled it in the SnoFlock until it was completely covered.

With the smoother styrofoam I had to pack it on and wet it and pack it on and wet it – the stuff really did not want to stick.  For the rougher styrofoam balls all I had to do was spritz once, roll and spritz again to solidify.

So much easier and these decorative snowballs are perfectly round.

Definitely the way to go.

I tucked my faux snowballs into a basket and set them on my porch – I should clarify, in a covered area on my porch; the SnoFlock does solidify, but it shouldn’t be exposed to rain or snow or it might slowly come off.

So far none have blown away (fingers crossed).  I think these faux snowballs would look great in a bowl under a flocked Christmas tree too.

I may even make a few more to use a place markers for the dining table – I’m imagining that you’d need ball-headed pushpins (4) to create little legs so the snowballs wouldn’t roll around and then a thin slice with a utility knife to make a slot in the top for a place card.

Can you picture it?  Cute and easy right?!

You could even add a drop of yellow food colouring to the one for “that” cousin.

These decorative snowballs shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes, start to finish – so it’s a quick and easy Winter craft, and whimsical decor piece.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
