Summer Sipping – Strawberry Lemonade

Does anything say summer more than ice cold lemonade and fresh, ripe strawberries?

Doesn’t it just bring up images of sitting on the porch watching the world go by? Condensation beading down the outside of your glass, the soft clinking of ice as you lift it to your mouth.  The burst of warm, sweet juice as you take that first bite of strawberry fresh from the garden.

These two iconic summer tastes could only be better if they were combined – say a strawberry lemonade maybe?

You will need:

  • the zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice (approximately 9 large lemons)
  • Directions:

Bring the lemon zest, 1 1/2 cups of the sugar, and 1 1/2 cups water to a boil in a small saucepan – stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Puree the strawberries and the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar together and let sit for about 45 minutes – so the sugar can completely dissolve in the puree.

Combine the lemon juice, lemon syrup (strain the zest if you wish) and 6 cups cold water in a large pitcher.

Add strawberry puree to taste, or add approximately 1 tbsp to each glass then top with the lemonade and ice if you prefer single servings.
