The BEST Way to Hang Pictures.

Once you try this “best way to hang pictures”, you won’t hang pictures any other way ever again!  Your pictures will never go crooked and you can space them perfectly for any gallery wall.

I learned about the best way to hang pictures via a YouTube video I came across online – I’ve included it lower in this post so you can see the brilliance in action as well.

I was skeptical at first, but I thought I’d give it a try – worst case – I had polyfil and touch-up paint in the garage.

I bought these GORGEOUS new frames from Craig’s Frames – I’ve told you about this company once before right?  Fast delivery, SUPER customer service and a massive selection of frames, mattes, finishes etc – most at better than Ikea prices.

Let’s be honest, you can only have so many chunky black and chunky white frames in your home before it’s time for a change.

These are called “scratched silver”.

I laid them out on the floor to get an idea of how I wanted them spaced.

Next you’ll need to find some nails with a very narrow head – you can buy finishing nails at the hardware store or, alternatively, and as is shown in the video, you can use a wire cutter to cut the tops off of wider head nails.

Choose a drill bit that is just smaller than the nail you’re using, and put it into your drill so that only a small section of it is hanging out.  This should be LESS than the depth of your frame.  You don’t want to drill right through the front.

Before drilling, you may want to take the glass out of your frame.

Mine had acrylic fronts, so I wasn’t worried that I’d shatter them and drilled with it all assembled.

Drill one hole on each side of the frame (making sure you have the top section up).

You don’t need to measure to make sure the nails are at the same height or anything – you’ll see why soon…

Then put your nails into the holes and tap a few times just until they are wedged in.
Again, you don’t want to hammer too hard or you’ll put the nail through the front of the frame.

You want this large section hanging out the back, one on each side of the top of your frame.

Hold your picture up to the wall with a level on top and once you have it where you want it – SHOVE.
Push really hard and the narrow nail heads will go right into the drywall!
Perfectly level and it won’t move!

Tell me that isn’t the easiest and therefore best way to hang pictures?

I had decided to space mine about 1 ½” apart (because that was the width of the painters tape I had) so I put a piece next to all three edges to mark the distance and proceeded to do the same with the other photos.

Level on top, painter’s tape as a spacer then SHOVE!

Once the bottom row was in, I put another strip of painter’s tape on top of them and finished up.

Remove the tape and happy dance around the room!

If your picture frames are solid wood, you can skip the pre-drilling part and just tap your finishing nails into the back of the wood frame.

Another benefit of using this “Best way to hang pictures” is that your pictures will be completely flush to the wall.

Imagine; your artwork won’t slope forward, you won’t have to nail-and-adjust then nail-and-adjust over and over again until your pictures are hung perfectly in line and they won’t ever go crooked.  One nail in each upper corner keeps them perfectly stable with just one more hole in your drywall than you would normally have (if you hung your picture perfectly the first time – which I never do).

Here’s the video I found (Thank you Robeson Design!)

Every photo, every canvas and every framed picture in my house is now hung this way – just try it once and you’ll be hooked too.
