I’ll have a huge bundle of leaves just barely captured between my hands and as I go to drop it into my leaf bag / yard bag – the flipping thing tips over or collapses back to its folded shape.
Makes me CRA-Z.
I found a pin on Pinterest that showed a pvc pipe solution, and since I have several (hundred) feet of pvc in the garage, I though it was worth a try.
Small problem – the 90° elbow with an outlet below is a not-in-stock piece and has to be special ordered from Lee Valley.
This is a leaf-bag-holder-opener so I wasn’t really looking to special-order pieces.
So I improvised! (Tinkertoy style)
I used a scrap piece of 2″ x 2″ wood and cut four pieces at 1 ¾” to give you 4 cubes. (Watch your fingers!)
I marked the centre on three adjoining sides of each cube.
I have an abundance of ¾” pvc pipe in the garage from a failed project earlier this summer so, to fit a ¾” pvc pipe snugly, I needed to use a 7/8″ spade bit on my drill.
You only need to drill in deep enough for your pvc pipe to tuck in – roughly 1/2″ on the three adjoining sides.
I cut two pieces of pvc at 9 ¾” long and another two pieces at 14 ¼” long and inserted them into the cubes.
My leaf bag is about 33″ tall, so I cut four more pieces of pvc at 33″ long and inserted them into the third hole on the cubes.
See! Just like Tinkertoy!
Flip your leaf bag stand into your yard materials bag and you’re done!
The bag will stay upright while you fill it and you can easily lift the pvc frame out once it’s full!
Dismantle it when the work is done and you can store your Tinkertoy pieces in a tiny footprint.
