I wasn’t going to post this article, it’s just TOO simple. The fact that I haven’t thought of it before today certainly ranks as one of my bigger “Duh!” moments, so there’s also the embarrassment factor.

BUT, since I hadn’t thought of it in 13 years of living in our home, perhaps there are others out there that haven’t either?  Tell me I’m not alone folks, I’m not the sharpest knife the drawer, but I hate to think I’m the dullest.

Up to today our central vacuum hose has lain in a pile somewhere in our house – sometimes tucked into a closet, sometimes (most times) laying in the hallway ready to suck up another daily mess – but always on the floor.

I recently purchased some “new to me” cabinets from an online auction and decided that one of the cupboards would hold my central vac and its components….  but I didn’t want the hose piled on the bottom.

I looked up central vac hose reel online and there are some neat ideas available to make and/or for purchase then…

lightbulb!

I went out to the garage, grabbed a few pieces of scrap wood and voilà!

The ¾” plywood is 10″ by 4″.

The 2″x2″ scrap pieces are 9″ long.

I attached the pegs to the plywood using wood glue – one on each bottom corner and then the third in the centre of the top – and then reinforced with 3″ construction screws drilled in from the back.

That’s it!

Seriously simple right?  (#facepalm)

I attached my central vac hose reel to the inside of my cabinet with 1 ¼” wood screws.

Then hung the hose for our central vacuum.

The 9″ pegs are long enough that they don’t need a lip to keep your hose on the reel.

Thirteen years it has been sitting on the floor.

When all I needed were 4 small pieces of scrap wood to create this DIY central vac hose reel.

Duh!

Oh well, dull knife or sharp, at least I’ll be better organized going forward.

Have a great one!
