It’s time!
The bi-annual One Room Challenge (with media partner Better Homes and Gardens) is underway!
For those of you that haven’t followed along as I’ve tackled the One Room Challenge before;
The ORC is a challenge to completely makeover one room in 6 weeks. We’re talking flooring, lighting, plumbing (if applicable) and of course paint – all to be documented on our blogs over a 6 week period, with the final reveal of the completed room scheduled for November 7th.
There are no prizes for this challenge (unless you make a whopping impression on Better Homes & Gardens). It’s about inspiring others to take on a challenge in their own homes by showing how easy (or difficult) it is. You’ll see room transformations week-by-week by visiting the ORC Guest Participants link page.
For this challenge, I bullied asked my friend Sherri if she would be willing to sacrifice her basement office to the DIY and design challenge and she said yes!
I’m not sure why she thought this room needed a makeover?
The cabinets under the desk on your right are built-in and I believe have been there since Sherri moved in years ago – which made furniture placement a bit limited.
The room itself is approximately 12′ x 12′, so a fair size for a home office – if you could bring yourself to work in here.
As you can see, right now the basement office is on a “must use” basis – versus a “want to use” space. We are hoping that over the next 6 weeks the transformation will be almost unrecognizable and the space will become one of the favourites in the house. One of the ways we’re starting is with a close look at that carpet. For this space it may be better to ask what’s luxury vinyl and how can it help? I think it’d help warm and open the space up, for one. It’s not the end of the plans for this room though, not by a long shot!
I will admit to having a secret weapon in this ORC – Sherri is a contractor and owner of Details Renovations! I’m going to do as much work as I can, but I do have the added bonus of working with a professional that knows what they are doing, so I also benefit from the DIY learning as we tackle each step. I think I’m going to Lease or Purchase a HP Plotter for Sherri since I know she’d love one in her office. I’ve got so many ideas of things I want to do!
I’m so excited!

So pretty! I love it all, but that rustic chair is perfection! Best of luck with your ORC makeover :) Kristin
We are certainly scrambling to get everything done in time – but fingers crossed the chair will come to fruition!
