Want a high-impact, low-cost, minimal-work way to upgrade any room in your home? This black accent wall brought drama to my bedroom in less than a day!
Hey guys!
Life here has been crazy-busy – in a wonderful-but-exhausting way.
I am a new Auntie – my brother and SIL had a GORGEOUS baby boy in October and I am beyond smitten.
I got a new job – Brand & Marketing Specialist – which I’m so excited about!
I’ve been fostering puppy mill rescues for K9 Safe Space and have so far been blessed to have loved 2 golden retriever sisters, and presently a golden-doodle Mama and an Aussie-doodle puppy that were at risk of being put down.
AND, I’m starting my own small business…. that is on top of my blog small business.
Needless to say my head is spinning most days – so I decided that I needed to “up” my sanctuary time by updating my bedroom with a new colour; a black accent wall.
It might sound like adding more work to an already work-filled life, but in actuality the makeover took about 1/3 of a gallon of paint and 3 hours of my time.
VERY worth it!
My master bedroom was nice – I built the kingsize bed in this blog post and I added the wainscoting in this article – but I’m a fidget when it comes to decor and when I saw the master bedroom from My House From Scratch, I HAD to copycat.
The posts on the footboard have been bugging me for awhile, so this was a great time to bring out the saw and cut them off. I still have to re-stain over the cut areas, but with the duvet on, it’s not very noticeable, so I’ll put that off for a bit.
If you want to see me timelapse paint, head over to Instagram – I look very proficient. 😂
Truth is, I started painting around 2, painted 3 coats of Benjamin Moore Ebony King, and could have slept in my room that night (but I didn’t feel up to reassembling the bed.)
Yup – by just painting the one black accent wall gave me an inexpensive and dramatic update in just a few hours.
The other walls are all Benjamin Moore Pale Oak – which fluctuates in colour from an off-white to a soft beige depending on the lighting.
I decided to copy My House from Scratch further by bringing in mirrors on my bedside tables:
Sorry guys, as much as I love and appreciate all of you for coming to my page (and pinning and sharing), I just can’t bring myself too iron my linen duvet cover.
So love with limits. lol
I’ll leave the Uber-pretty photos and ironed sheets to the interior design bloggers. I’ll give you the “real” version, where sheets are sometimes forgotten in the dryer for a week and come out wrinkly.
And where I hope the gorgeous black accent wall detracts from the water bottle and skin cream on the nightstand and the image of the blogger and her chins in the other mirror. lol
Jeesh!
It’s an easy project, completed in less than a day (including drying time) and makes your room all warm and snuggly for Fall and Winter decor.
Pin it, share it, love it.
All I need now is a fireplace insert in my bedroom… and believe me, it’s on my to-do list as soon as all of these jobs start making me rich. lol
Have a great one!
Love this look with the squares on the wall, but am always concerned about dust. Yes, I know I should do it frequently but I just KNOW that all that dust is gonna end up in the corners. Would be interested to know your thoughts. Great job, as always
