Christmas in the Dining Room – with the table set for entertaining and the lights low for a warm Christmas glow, come and check out my Christmas dining room on the blog today!

I had so much trouble photographing my dining room this year!

I cleaned and polished and dusted and mopped, but when I went to take photos we had a beautiful sunny day – which sounds awesome, but actually isn’t ideal for photographing.  I waited until the sun had moved so I didn’t get large shadows, but then the Rogers truck parked out front.

We don’t save our dining room for formal evenings, the space is used as our everyday eating area, homework area, computer gaming area – you name it, so once the room was clean and tidy, I had to take the photos asap before the kids and Hubby arrived home.  Please forgive the sunny day and long shadows (and Rogers truck) in my Christmas in the Dining Room tour.

Our dining room is almost open concept to the rest of the main floor, with a large double opening to the main foyer and a single opening to the kitchen.

I went with a navy and gold colour scheme for our Christmas dining room – mainly because I find the gold so striking against the black dining table and buffet.

I made my centrepiece using grocery store flowers and greens, tucked into floral foam in a large mercury glass ice bucket – at least I think it’s an ice bucket?  It might be a vase?  Or maybe I was supposed to put a large candle in it?  Regardless, it adds the height to the table and holds a large display of flowers.  Speaking of, did you know that you can keep the greenery from now until Christmas and just change out the flowers as they wilt?  No need to buy a fancy centrepiece right before guests arrive – instead just purchase a few stems and tuck them in where the others have died.

I picked up these Christmas plates at Pier One last year, but I’ve seen similar versions at HomeSense recently.  They give the glitter and warmth of Holiday dishware, without a busy pattern to detract from the food.

I’ve put a full-sized tree in the dining room in previous years, but it makes the space so crowded once we put the extra leaf in the table, so this year I tucked my pencil tree into the corner and decorated it with navy and gold ornaments.  It gives the warm glow of Christmas lights, without taking up too much ‘entertaining space’.

The buffet / sideboard holds a few large ornaments and a long centrepiece that is easily moved when we need space to hold wine and glasses or desserts and plates.

Along the other wall behind the table we have a small bar cart stocked and ready for any guests that pop by – with my gold reindeer and navy napkins to tie everything together.

I know, my fern is looking raggedy, but I’m still holding out for a Christmas miracle.

The best part of Christmas (I think) are glowing lights, so I couldn’t finish my Christmas dining room tour without a couple of evening shots to show off the warm and cozy vibe.

I didn’t buy anything new for the space this year – everything you see was in other rooms last year.  It’s nice to be able to change things up without having to break the bank to do so.

Now all we need are friends and family to grace the space and bring together the true treasures of Christmas; love, laughter and joy.

Have a great one!
