You don’t have to break the bank or spend hours on hours making your home Autumn-worthy. Just a few inexpensive touches is all you need to bring the Fall vibe home.

I know I’m not an interior decorator.
Far from it – *those people (written with a jealous undertone) have a sense of balance, colour, spacing and texture that I just can’t seem to figure out the equation to.
But I aspire…
I want my home to be cozy and welcoming – even if no one but us enjoys it.
This Fall I decided to change up my colours to something a bit different. Oranges and yellows are beautiful and traditional Fall decorating, but I’m in the mood for jewel tones this year.
I swapped out my pillow covers for a combination of olive, eggplant, and a graphic leaf print.
I couldn’t find any faux Fall branches that incorporated these colours, so I added a dark purple flower to my eucalyptus arrangement.
My girls are older now, so Hallowe’en doesn’t hold the same appeal as when they were young. To hint at the Fall decorating season, without going all creepy and spidery (I don’t like Hallowe’en) I brought out a single ceramic pumpkin in cream.
While I profess to love professionally decorated spaces – and I do – I just can’t bring myself to purchase expensive coffee table books that will never be opened. I love the look in other homes, but I’m also a lover of books – so if I’m going to have them, they’d better be readable.
These are two titles I picked up from Costco yesterday for less than $20, and leaving them out will be just the excuse enticement I need to snuggle in for a chapter or two.
An olive fleece throw over the chaise end of our sectional will seal the Fall decorating deal. Tea, blanket, book – the perfect Fall trifecta. 🥰
The navy built-ins I treat as a sort of neutral (rightly or wrongly 🤷🏻♀️). Sometimes I coordinate the pillows and decor to the blue, sometimes I use it as a third accent – and I think it’s a great compliment to the jewel tones I brought in.
This is the demi-lune side table I built a few months ago out of an old kitchen table:
A couple of ceramic succulents and a pottery bowl (that I guess I should fill with something?) are all the touches I add to transition into Autumn.
The other side of the room doesn’t change much from season to season. Everyone has a favourite chair right? These lazyboys are in use daily, or at least mine is – reading, internet surfing, cat petting, dog referee… it’s not fancy, but functional. 🤷🏻♀️. I couldn’t think of any Fall decorating to put here that wouldn’t be tedious to take on and off the chairs or table. Pillows and blankets take up too much of the chair and removing them and putting them back on after each use just didn’t scream “cozy Fall vibes” to me.
Oh. Ummm… reading that, I’m beginning to understand why I have no talent as a decorator. 😂
Well “touches” of Fall are all I promised… just enough to acknowledge my favourite season, and bring a cozy feel into our space.
Time to snuggle in and enjoy my efforts. 😉
Have a great one!
