Have you heard of the “One Room Challenge”?

It’s a twice-a-year challenge where bloggers are given 6 weeks to totally makeover one room in their home.

It started Thursday, October 5th, so I’m a few days late in posting my entry as a guest contributor, but I am certainly in on the action and can’t wait to see what amazing transformations everyone comes up with.

One Room Challenge - ORC

The room I’ve selected for my One Room Challenge is Hubby’s office (warning: if you have any sensitivity to unorganized chaos, please avert your eyes now)

This is tidy folks, most of these boxes, binders and paperwork are usually spread across the floor as well.

Our home office is a small room just off of the front foyer, and the second thing you see as you walk in the door.

Measuring at 10′ by 10′ with a cathedral ceiling and giant window along one wall, this room should be spectacular…

But as you can see it isn’t.

Hubby has had this office since we built the house in 2005 and despite my efforts to tidy and reorganize, it has always been in this state of chaos.

Hubby doesn’t seem to notice, but it causes me 10 degrees of stress and anxiety and I HATE that anyone coming over sees this as soon as they walk in the door. I’ve considered looking at crate hire from places like https://www.teacrate.co.uk/ but I think the whole office needs re-doing now! It’s so cluttered.

Please forgive the photo quality, it’s a tight fit stepping over boxes and furniture (and garbage), so I used my iPad to photograph what I could.

That window seat should have been a gorgeous nook to sit and read, but as you can see it’s anything but relaxing.

Here’s a pano shot so you can see the spacing a bit better – the left wall houses his desk hutch, the wall directly in front leads out to the foyer and the third wall on your right consist of a giant window and a built-in window seat and narrow bookcase.

If you’re standing by the door, this is the view into the room.

So, after 12 years of begging, pleading, cajoling and nagging, I’ve decided it’s time to take over our home office and move Hubby to the basement office where he can pig-sty away without any interruption.

THIS office, is gonna be mine!

Yup – I’m going feminine, cool, crisp and clean!

Frankly clean alone would be a one room makeover in itself.

My home office needs to have multiple functions in a tiny little foot print;

  1. I need the space to act as an office with a desk, storage, computer space and a filing cabinet. I’m also thinking of getting a foldable whiteboard since my friend recently bought one and she said it’s amazing!
  2. I need to house my craft room supplies. In moving Hubby to the basement, I’m losing my craft room so my workspace and storage has to be re-homed into the new space
  3. I’d like a chair. Not sure how this is going to work, but in a perfect world I’d love to have a reading chair tucked in somewhere so I can close the door and hide away with my tea and a read.

Here’s the catch – I’m on a VERY limited budget, so almost all of the projects will have to be done within a DIY, repurposed, refinished budget. Cheap.

Think I can do it?

Come back on Thursday to check out the week two progress and surf some of the other amazing bloggers to see what they are up to and get inspired.

For my week one?

Clean – trust me, that was a HUGE undertaking (and already a huge improvement).
