I love this post so much – and I can’t take credit for it at all.
Damn! I hate sharing the glory.
My friend Leslie was showing me photographs from a party her daughter threw the other week; in them, she pointed out the mini fire pit / personal fire pits she had created for the girls so they could have a s’mores bar.
I was all over her for details on how to make one – and she one-upped me by bringing two over for my girls and I to enjoy.
With her permission, I share this Gonna-make-you-the-most-awesome-Mom-in-the-universe-with-almost-no-effort mini fire pit;
Take a terracotta pot:
Line it with tin foil (this one is lined two layers thick),
shred some paper and insert it in the bottom,
then top with a few charcoal briquettes and light.
The paper lights the briquettes and the mini fire pit will go on for ages.
How long?
I don’t actually know because the mini fire pit outlasted the girls. We roasted marshmallows with friends the other day and the firepots were still hot long after we were full.
Leslie did warn me that the pots get extremely hot, so you don’t want to touch them (as with any fire pit), and you don’t want to put them down onto a bare table. She gave them to me in a disposable roasting pan and I put a stone trivet under that just to be safe.
These were absolutely fantastic!
You have the “fun aspect” of roasting marshmallows and/or making s’mores, you have the fantastic smell of a campfire and you have almost no clean up at all! Blow out your fire and the briquettes will eventually turn to ashes that you can just scatter over your garden. The terracotta pot can be used for another cookout tomorrow!I hit the dollar store to make a few more to have on hand as gifts for friends and neighbours to enjoy as well.
Mini Fire Pit
Total investment:
- terracotta pot $1-$2
- tin foil (just slightly over free since we always have some in the kitchen)
- shredded paper (recycling bin)
- charcoal briquettes $3 for a bag at the dollar store, and one bag will make a dozen mini fire pits
- skewers $1.25 at the dollar store
- marshmallows $2
Approximately $6 per.
Thank you so much Leslie – these were so much fun and the girls think you’re an absolute Rockstar!
Have a great one!
