Tire Project – treehouse seating

May 24th, 2017|KIDS, REFINISH/REPURPOSE|

I’m in phase III now of a treehouse makeover for the girls; I’ll show you phase I and II in another post, but today I wanted to show you our tire project from Hubby’s old snow tires.

This idea stemmed from an image I’d seen from ItsyBits&Pieces:

Tire project, repurposed tire, how to use an old tire, tire seating, how to paint a tire

Isn’t this perfect for a teen/tween hangout?

Unfortunately we don’t have […]

DIY Mini Golf – as designed by 6 and 9 year-olds

May 12th, 2017|BUILD IT, KIDS|

I think this is so cute, I had to share.

As you may know I was left with an astronomical amount of pvc pipe after a failed spray paint tent project the other week, so I have racked my brain to come up with ideas to put it to good use.

Last weekend some of my daughter’s friends came over and we made the pvc jewelry stands from this post.  While the girls and I were working, some of the neighbourhood […]

Cork Board Makeover

April 19th, 2017|DECOR, DIY, KIDS|

I am in the home stretch of a room makeover for my tween daughter!  The past week has been about updating her room from hot pink to white – including changing out the caulking on the window, painting all the trim, sanding damage out of the walls and now (finally) decorating.

I’m not sure why Miss Madison decided on white – but now that it’s all coming together, I have to admit that the kid has taste.  It’s looking really great […]

Easter Egg Hunt Invitation and Easter Scavenger Hunt printable

March 19th, 2017|FREE PRINTABLES, HOLIDAYS, KIDS|

We’re just under a month out, so I thought I’d get us all organized by bringing out the Easter Scavenger Hunt printables and the Easter Egg Hunt Invitations.

Each year my street gets together to hold an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids.  It’s been going on for years now – I’m pretty sure if I searched my computer I’d find shots of the girls at 3 years old (they are now 9 and 11), so I think it’s safe to say […]

American Girl Doll – Dollhouse / Treehouse / Beach house

March 11th, 2017|BUILD IT, DIY, GAMES / FUN, KIDS|

Build an American Girl Doll (or other 18″ doll) DIY dollhouse / DIY treehouse to keep the imagination going outside.

I don’t have plans for this build.  I can make plans, but first I’d like to gauge how many of you would like them before I go to the effort to draw them up.  If you want plans for this DIY American Girl Doll treehouse, leave me a comment at the bottom of this post and if enough are interested, I’ll […]

DIY Bird Feeder – $4 and 20 minutes to make

February 4th, 2017|BUILD IT, DIY, KIDS|

It seems every February I get the ‘feels’ for the poor birds.  Last year I showed you how to make a super-simple bird house to help keep our feathered friends warm, this year I’m adding to my garden with this easy ($4) DIY bird feeder.

Age Appropriate Chores for Kids

January 26th, 2017|FREE PRINTABLES, KIDS, ORGANIZE|

I’ve posted these age-appropriate chores for kids lists on the blog before, but it was only this January that Hubby and I decided to really enforce cooperation.

Maybe it’s just that this year we have the power of the iPad to encourage compliance – no chores, no screen time.

Whatever the incentive/pressure, the girls have stepped up their game and have actually been doing the  majority of the chores on the list!  I’m happy-wiggling in my seat!  Beds are getting made, laundry […]

Fairy Door – Invite a Fairy into your home.

January 16th, 2017|KIDS|

A few years ago, when I started this blog, I showed you our fairy door.

Fairy door, Gnome home, elf door

(Forgive the gruesome finger – workplace accident.)

Since our Fairy – Ruby – first moved in, her home has been a source of entertainment and imagination for the girls and their friends.

Maddie, now 10, is somewhat past the fairy stage, but Miss Chloë still asks if we’ve seen Ruby around.

Because of these inquiries, […]

Ugly Christmas Sweaters – or rather t-shirts

December 18th, 2016|GAMES / FUN, HOLIDAYS, KID'S CRAFTS, KIDS|

We had fun last weekend.  We were laughing and giggling away because of the task our advent calendar had us scheduled to complete:  ugly Christmas sweaters.

When I first put the idea into the girls’ calendar, I had thought we would buy some ugly sweaters from the thrift store, but when last weekend rolled around, I decided we didn’t need to spend any more money to still have the same fun… so I brought out some old t-shirts and let the […]

You’ve Been Boo’d III

October 12th, 2016|FREE PRINTABLES, GAMES / FUN, HOLIDAYS, KIDS|

This is a repeat/redundant post that I do every single year, and will continue to do until my girls are too old to enjoy surprise treats – our annual “You’ve Been Boo’d”.

If you haven’t seen my Boo’d I and Boo’d II posts, the idea is to package up a few pre-Hallowe’en goodies, along with the “You’ve Been Boo’d” poem then drop your gifts off at friends homes by ringing and running.

My girls LOVE the ring and run part […]
