Easter Egg Hunt Invitation and Easter Scavenger Hunt printable

We’re just under a month out, so I thought I’d get us all organized by bringing out the Easter Scavenger Hunt printables and the Easter Egg Hunt Invitations.

Each year my street gets together to hold an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids.  It’s been going on for years now – I’m pretty sure if I searched my computer I’d find shots of the girls at 3 years old (they are now 9 and 11), so I think it’s safe to say […]

American Girl Doll – Dollhouse / Treehouse / Beach house

March 11th, 2017|BUILD IT, DIY, GAMES / FUN, KIDS|

Build an American Girl Doll (or other 18″ doll) DIY dollhouse / DIY treehouse to keep the imagination going outside.

I don’t have plans for this build.  I can make plans, but first I’d like to gauge how many of you would like them before I go to the effort to draw them up.  If you want plans for this DIY American Girl Doll treehouse, leave me a comment at the bottom of this post and if enough are interested, I’ll […]

DIY Bird Feeder – $4 and 20 minutes to make

February 4th, 2017|BUILD IT, DIY, KIDS|

It seems every February I get the ‘feels’ for the poor birds.  Last year I showed you how to make a super-simple bird house to help keep our feathered friends warm, this year I’m adding to my garden with this easy ($4) DIY bird feeder.

A six-foot 1×6 cedar board will run you about […]

Age Appropriate Chores for Kids

I’ve posted these age-appropriate chores for kids lists on the blog before, but it was only this January that Hubby and I decided to really enforce cooperation.

Maybe it’s just that this year we have the power of the iPad to encourage compliance – no chores, no screen time.

Whatever the incentive/pressure, the girls have stepped up their game and have actually been doing the  majority of the chores on the list!  I’m happy-wiggling in my seat!  Beds are getting made, laundry […]

Fairy Door – Invite a Fairy into your home.

January 16th, 2017|KIDS|

A few years ago, when I started this blog, I showed you our fairy door.

Fairy door, Gnome home, elf door

(Forgive the gruesome finger – workplace accident.)

Since our Fairy – Ruby – first moved in, her home has been a source of entertainment and imagination for the girls and their friends.

Maddie, now 10, is somewhat past the fairy stage, but Miss Chloë still asks if we’ve seen Ruby around.

Because of these inquiries, […]

Ugly Christmas Sweaters – or rather t-shirts

December 18th, 2016|GAMES / FUN, HOLIDAYS, KID'S CRAFTS, KIDS|

We had fun last weekend.  We were laughing and giggling away because of the task our advent calendar had us scheduled to complete:  ugly Christmas sweaters.

When I first put the idea into the girls’ calendar, I had thought we would buy some ugly sweaters from the thrift store, but when last weekend rolled around, I decided we didn’t need to spend any more money to still have the same fun… so I brought out some old t-shirts and let the […]

You’ve Been Boo’d III

This is a repeat/redundant post that I do every single year, and will continue to do until my girls are too old to enjoy surprise treats – our annual “You’ve Been Boo’d”.

If you haven’t seen my Boo’d I and Boo’d II posts, the idea is to package up a few pre-Hallowe’en goodies, along with the “You’ve Been Boo’d” poem then drop your gifts off at friends homes by ringing and running.

My girls LOVE the ring and run part […]

Cottage Crafts for Kids

August 14th, 2016|CRAFTS, KIDS|

‘Cottage’ to me, implies sitting by the beach, with a breeze in the air, flipping through magazines and/or reading a book with my tea (hot or cold) by my side.

‘Cottage’ to my kids means swimming and bodysurfing and yelling “Mom, mom, mom…”

Time to find a middle ground I think.

An easy and cute cottage craft for kids is creating rock faces.  To do this you will need an old magazine (with lots of faces in it), some white glue, a few […]

How to Make a Duct Tape Wallet

July 17th, 2016|CRAFTS, KID'S CRAFTS, KIDS|

My friend Georgia stopped by the other day to show me a really cool duct tape wallet she’d purchased.  Okay, Georgia’s Mom is a closer friend (Georgia is 10), but I don’t want to discount any awesome friendships that lead to a knock on the door to show me an awesome craft.

You know I had to try for myself.

You will need:

  • 2 – 3 rolls of coordinating duck tape (one for the exterior, one for the interior and a third […]
