As part of our foyer makeover from last weekend, I really needed to do something with this:

Gallery wall, family photo wall, staircase gallery, kids art gallery

It’s our family photo gallery wall that I had created going down our staircase.  There really was no rhyme or reason to my positioning; as I found a new photo I loved (and got around to getting a frame for it), I’d just add it to the wall.

It was okay, but the black frames were heavy (and crooked) and I think they took away from the photos somewhat – but who wants to re-do a gallery wall when you have repairs like this to do?gallery-wall-2-1

That’s a lotta holes to fill, sand and paint.

But it was time, and this was my opportunity – so I took all the frames down, removed all of the photos and glass and repainted them in brushed nickel.

Then re-hung them with my favourite no-crooked-pictures technique.

I did lose one pane of glass (and a few ounces of blood), but was also able to bring in a few other pictures that held “family” – like the puppy watercolour of our Lacey.  I looked over dozens of images on Houzz to see how to style a gallery wall, and found that my tastes went more to symmetry and straight lines – so I started with a horizontal line, and then brought in a vertical one and tried to maintain spacing to keep things straight.

The best part is that with better positioning and layout, I’ve created a ton more space to add even more family photos!

For the hallway leading down to our basement, I wanted to update my kids’ art gallery wall.  I had purchased a pre-packaged gallery wall kit months ago and hadn’t inserted the girls artwork.

The girls love their art classes at The Arts Creative and I love the masterpieces they bring home, so it was a great time to frame up several of my favourites to add to our collection.

I lined both sides of the hallway with these priceless masterpieces and it looks so gorgeous!

I have artwork they’ve done from the ages of 18 months to 10 years old and every single one is perfection.

If you’d like to replicate this look – either the family photo gallery wall or the kids’ art gallery wall, I can’t recommend Craig Frames enough (this is not sponsored in any way).  You can get any frame, any size, with any matting (custom cut as well) for Ikea prices.  I’ve ordered from them for years and have never been disappointed with the quality, price or customer service.   (Just trying to pass along a good thing.)

Did I mention how pleased I am with our foyer makeover?

Have a great one!
