Today is a hot cocoa kind of day…
make this adorable sign and create a hot chocolate station for warm memories all winter long.
I’m so excited to share today’s post! I am a HUGE fan of Details 2 Enjoy and have purchased a few word kits from them in the past like:
I’ve had my eye on several others, however with shipping to Canada etc, it gets pricey and I only have so much wall space to hang all of my beauties.
BUT
If Details 2 Enjoy had say a Black Friday sale – it would only make sense to take advantage of the deals right? Wall space be damned!
I picked up 4 more word sets and couldn’t wait to get today’s put together to show off!
This isn’t a sponsored post, and I don’t earn any affiliate commissions from Details 2 Enjoy – not that it would matter because I only promote items I really love on the blog anyway. What they do is design word layouts and then laser cut the letters so you can mount them yourself onto a sign. (I think they sell completed signs as well?)
I picked up their “Today is a hot cocoa kind of day” set and have itched to put it up as a winter decoration post-Christmas.
I cut a piece of ½” plywood to 10″ by 20″ and painted it black for my background.
I wanted to leave a little extra space at the side of my “Today is a hot cocoa kind of day” sign for a mug cut-out which I cut from a Silhouette file on my scroll saw.
This is just the primer stage – I gave it a more thorough sanding before actually adding the white paint.
Then I pilfered some cedar from my scrap wood pile and ripped it down to 1 ½” wide – which as it turns out is way too wide for a frame – but (happy accident) is perfect for a double-sided frame. That’s how I roll – screw up, then work with it. lol
I added a mitred corners to my frame then glued and nailed them into place.
I debated on staining and finishing the frame, but because I went with the burnished, laser-cut letters (with no paint or stain), I decided to leave the cedar raw to match – plus the smell reminds me of a clean hamster cage (a fond memory, if maybe not quite what you want in your kitchen).
I tucked my Today is a hot cocoa kind of day sign into the frame, centred it so that there is an equal overhang on the front and back and then tacked into place with a couple of finishing nails. (I’ll show the other side of the sign another day)
Hot chocolate is my second favourite drink to my chai lattes, so I was thrilled to receive hot cocoa accoutrements from friends at Christmas.
My little hot cocoa station is set up with Belgian melting chocolate (TO-DIE-FOR!), marshmallows, chocolate and dark chocolate powder toppings and both crushed and mini-candy canes for peppermint hot chocolate. Just look at those snowman marshmallows! They might just be too cute to eat!
I popped up my hot chocolate mug with some foam adhesive squares so that it’s off the surface of the hot chocolate sign a bit.
In order to better show off my hot chocolate station and new “Today is a hot cocoa kind of day” sign, you know I had to whip up a batch of creamy, rich deliciousness.
This is ‘special batch’ hot chocolate with milk cooked on the stove and dark chocolate flakes melted in at the last minute. (then whip cream and peppermint candy cane of course).
Not your everyday boiling water and packet of cocoa set up here! (At least not today).
So good, it’s like a dessert!
Yup, New Year’s Resolution to lose weight blown out of the water already – but oh-so-worth-it!
Come on, tell me you don’t need a hot cocoa sign even if only as an excuse for your own hot chocolate station?
Winter’s long and it’s a great decoration to entice everyone in after a cold day’s snowman making/ skiing / sledding / or just shovelling the driveway.
Any excuse works for me.
Have a great one!
