The 100Things2Do Christmas tree for 2018 includes red, white and plaid on a freshly flocked artificial tree.

I am hoping to do a Holiday Home Tour at some point in December, but it seems as though as soon as one room is clean, every other one is in chaos-mode.  Instead of slaving on every single room at once, I thought I’d piecemeal it and share one room at a time – so yes, every room in my home is a pigsty except our family room (for the moment anyways).

Per the amazing Kelley Nan’s tree decorating advice, I chose three ribbons as the basis of my tree this year;  a white snowflake print, a red sparkly ribbon and a rustic plaid  – all of which I found at Costco.

This is the same artificial Christmas tree from last year, but with a new and improved look thanks to some flocking I applied a month or so ago.  I love the fresh snow look and think it adds so much warmth and romance to the tree – best decision ever!

I didn’t want to give up any seating in the family room, and to be honest, I have no place to store the chairs either – so I flanked the tree and brought in some off-white pillows and a throw.

I hung my berry wreaths in the windows using clear fishing line, and wrapped a few gifts to fill out the base of the red and white Christmas tree.

For my built-ins, I went pretty minimal, just a few items on each shelf like my DIY wood trees.

I know, I know – I’m selfish – I had to have a set for myself, but in fairness, I did make several trees so there are more than enough to go around as gifts as well.

Wood Christmas trees, wood trees

I picked up these winter white stockings on Boxing Day last year.  I still have to create labels for them, but for now they are the best, and only, decor I can put on my mantle…

Hubby doesn’t like when gorgeous pine and cedar ropes block the infrared on the TV.

The wooden horses you see are the ones my Step-Dad and I made last year with a candle ring wrapped around for some festive colour.  I love these horses – these really are going to be an heirloom because 1. they are gorgeous and 2. because of the treasured memories attached to them.

The base of our red and white Christmas tree is off the ground by about 18″ (my DIY tree stand) leaving plenty of room to wrap the bottom with faux sheepskin rugs, pretty packages (tied up with string) and a sleigh filled with presents and ornaments.

I love the tree without the lights, but I love it even more when they’re glowing away.  Hubby is not going to be pleased with the electric bill this (and next) month.

Kitten in the Christmas tree

This is Miss Luna (10 months old) enjoying her first red and white Christmas tree.  (had to add the red & white for SEO – this is her first tree of any colour ever. lol)

This – below – is the remedy to Luna enjoying her first Christmas tree.

Pet Corrector

Fortunately its red and white so it almost blends in with the rest of the decor. lol

Whenever she gets a paw or two up the trunk, I just spray a little Pet Corrector and the noise has her heading for the hills.  Actually, she now runs as soon as she sees me reach for the can.

A little moss, a couple of pinecones, a candle and some faux antlers fill a dough bowl on the coffee table.

I have my three Tomte gnomes sitting on the side table next to my chair – guarding the gifts (and my tea).

I like to change up my tree(s) each year and while I loved the navy, white and gold Christmas tree from last year – which you may see again on my dining room tree – there’s just something about a red and white Christmas tree that will never go out of style.

I wish I could show you the other half of the room, but our main floor is open-concept, so you’d be witness to bins of decorations not put away, dishes undone (because I’ve been decorating and photographing) and a pile of presents stacked in the kitchen from Miss Chloë’s 11th birthday yesterday.

For now I hope you’ve enjoyed Christmas in our family room – I know I have because I now have photographic proof that it is possible for it to be tidy. lol
