If you like kempt hedges and shrubs, but hate lugging out a giant hedge trimmer and miles of extension cords, this WORX Shear & Shrub trimmer is a compact, portable and CORDLESS option.

Summer is quickly winding down and with it, the main growing season for your shrubs and hedges.  Once the flowers have finished their showcase, I like to give everything a little “grooming” to keep the growth and shape the way I like it.

With that annual chore in mind, I will admit that I am getting too lazy to haul out the big hedge trimmer and 100 feet of extension cords just to reach all of the bushes in my backyard.

Turns out I’ve been working harder, not smarter, and there actually IS a cordless Shear and Shrub trimmer.  Better still, it’s small, compact, and lightweight so that you only need one hand to operate it!

I am a HUGE fan of WORX garden tools – it’s the only brand I buy.

My favourites include:

So getting the opportunity to try the WORX shear & shrub trimmer was a no-brainer!

The trimmer body is only 2lbs, so very easy to carry and manipulate.  It comes with both a 4″ grass shear blade:

AND an 8″ shrub trimmer blade that are easily swapped out without any tools needed.

WORX Shear and Shrub trimmerThe shear and shrub trimmer isn’t for large hedge trimming jobs – WORX has several other options for heavy-duty work – this is a small handheld trimmer that does fine trimming and grooming to keep your ornamental hedges looking crisp.

Remember my privacy planters from years ago?  I planted cedars in each to offer a bit more privacy around the hot tub and they have done very well.  But these crazy hair-do’s just aren’t for me.

I like things relatively kempt and I don’t want the branches to grow outwards because then the bushes will split with heavy snow come winter.  The WORX shear & shrub trimmer is perfect for this scenario.

It’s small enough that I can get right up to the privacy lattice at the back (which my large hedge trimmer bangs against and damages).

I can fit between the privacy planters to split the hedges from each other, and the 4″ grass shear is perfect for the grass between the planters that my weed trimmer can’t reach.

Cedars, boxwoods, sand cherry, forsythia… any shrub that you want to keep it’s shape, this is a great tool for.

I tackled my peonies and boxwoods with the WORX shear & shrub trimmer as well, but they are more gangly hedges, so the before and after isn’t as dramatic.

  • WORX 20V Power Share Garden Shear Shrubber for quick and easy trimming.
  • Dual-action blades for clean professional trimming.
  • Overmold soft-grip handle for comfort and control.
  • Includes 4 in. Grass Shear blade and an 8 in. Shrubbery blade. Optional pole extension is available.
  • Sheath guard protection for additional safety during storage.
  • Same Battery, Expandable Power. The same battery powers over 75+ 20V, 40V, and 80V lifestyle, garden, and power tools in the Power Share™ family.

Changing out the blades is a matter of pressing a button on the bottom of the handle, the casing will open and you just lift one blade out and place the other in!

The blades themselves cut at 1100 strokes per minute – so this little guy has some power.  If you have any other WORX tools – garden or workshop – then the batteries are completely interchangeable between all of the tools.

I notice the Shear & Shrub Trimmer is sold out on the WORX website (as of 08/23), so if you can’t find one there, then Canadian Tire carries a large line of WORX tools (for us Canadians), and I’ll include Amazon affiliate links for US shoppers.
