This ironing board storage solution is from Ana White, so please click over to her Iron Board Holder post for the details.

What I will share are the changes I made to her building plans – just a couple, don’t worry.

This is (essentially) what you will build following Ana’s plans; an 18″ by 20″ ironing board storage rack with a shelf on the top to hold your iron etc.

My problem was that my ironing board has wonky legs (bow-legged?) so I couldn’t follow Ana’s plans exactly and instead had to trace an outline of my legs and then use 2″ x 2″ pieces (cut to 3″ long) to hold those legs in place.

Once I had my outline, I pre-drilled small holes (two for each block) from the front of the rack right through to the back.  I then held my posts up to where those screw holes were on the front and pre-drilled again through the holes and into the posts.

I used 3″ construction screws (which are super-heavy-duty) and drilled from the back of my ironing board storage rack through each 2″ x 2″ post.  With these heavy-duty screws those posts aren’t going anywhere.

I had one other dilemma with my build and that was that my iron itself was too large to fit inside the crate section of my DIY ironing board rack.  I ended up having to take off the front rail in order to fit the iron inside it.

My laundry room isn’t finished, so I screwed my ironing board storage rack right to the studs (again with 3″ construction screws) so I’m not too worried about the shelf moving around and/or the iron falling off.

I think the entire project took me about an hour, but a good portion of that was spent sorting through my scrap wood pile to find enough pieces to make this.  (Total cost = $0)

My iron and ironing board are tucked out of the way when not in use, and I managed to use up some extra wood I had lying around AND get my creative “fix” on.

Someday I’ll finish my laundry room with drywall and fancy cupboards, but for now a $0 organizing solution will do just fine.
